Drip tape is one of the most cost-effective irrigation methods for row crops. Choosing the right specifications is critical for optimal water delivery and system longevity.
Wall Thickness
Drip tape is available in various wall thicknesses, typically ranging from 5 mil (0.125mm) to 15 mil (0.375mm). Thinner tapes are more economical for single-season use, while thicker options provide multi-season durability.
- 5-6 mil: Single season, flat terrain, low pressure
- 8 mil: Standard choice, moderate durability
- 10-12 mil: Multi-season, rocky soil, higher pressure
- 15 mil: Maximum durability, subsurface installation
Emitter Spacing
Emitter spacing determines the distance between water outlet points along the tape. Common spacings include 20cm, 30cm, and 40cm. Closer spacing provides more uniform wetting for sandy soils, while wider spacing is suitable for clay soils with better lateral water movement.
Flow Rate
Standard flow rates range from 0.6 to 2.0 L/h per emitter. Lower flow rates are ideal for clay soils to prevent waterlogging, while higher rates suit sandy soils that drain quickly.
